The Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI) follow a best-in-class approach to measure the performance of the world’s sustainability leaders. Only companies that lead their industries based on a comprehensive assessment of long-term economic, environmental and social criteria are included in the indices. The indices provide a transparent system to enable global investors and other stakeholders to learn about the sustainability performance of leading companies.

DJSI celebrates its 15th anniversary this year. Launched in 1999, the DJSI World has continued to provide insightful information on global corporate sustainability and provided a credible benchmark for companies to achieve more in this area. Companies continue to inform DJSI about how useful they have found this tool in measuring the effectiveness of their sustainability strategies. Guido Giese, Head of Indices, RobecoSAM, says that the total number of companies assessed by DJSI has grown more than four times over the last 15 years.
