WASHINGTON, December 8, 2016 /3BL Media/ –  Celebrating the power of volunteering, leaders from the private, public and social sectors convened at the International Volunteer Day Forum and Awards Celebration on December 5, in Washington D.C.  Organizations such as Volunteers for Economic Growth Alliance (VEGA), Building Bridges Coalition (BBC), PYXERA Global, Partners of the Americas, International Association for Volunteer Effort (IAVE), Service Year, and Impact 2030 represented the myriad ways that the power of volunteering can be brought to bear to meet this century’s global development and security challenges.  The Forum encouraged the new Congress and incoming Presidential administration to prioritize effective volunteer programs and policies.

The value of volunteerism, especially skills-based volunteerism, can be seen through different types of social impact initiatives. For example, IBM and the Peace Corps advance girls’ education in Ghana through global pro bono collaboration (webcast summary here and article here). In programs like the Global Health Corporate Champions, a multi-company global pro bono effort, corporations come together to collaborate with non-profits to address global health challenges in under-served markets.

Consistent with this approach, PYXERA Global will host the Global Engagement Forum: Live April 4 and 5 in Washington, D.C. to focus on specific solvable problems regarding Global Health, Agriculture, and Economic Opportunity. Request an invitation to join leaders from across sectors for two days of intensive collaboration to move the Sustainable Development Goals from aspiration to achievement.
