Sulphur, La., Nov. 11, 2014 /3BL Media/ – Local CITGO Marketer JEI, Inc. and CITGO Petroleum Corporation are teaming up for the “Be a Star. Buy a Star.” fundraiser to support four local charities throughout Louisiana, including Colors for a Cause, Operation Homefront, the Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana and Saint Helena Action for Equality (SAFE). From Nov. 1 through Dec. 31, customers are encouraged to visit one of the 23 participating JEI Cash Magic CITGO locations to purchase paper stars for $1 or more to benefit the local organizations that have been chosen in four regions across the state.

“We are excited to launch this promotion at each of our Cash Magic locations in Louisiana,” said Asha Johnson, Louisiana director of human resources at JEI, Inc. “We are honored to partner with these charities and support each of their individual missions and are proud to help so many different causes through these fundraising events.”

Proceeds will go to the organization in the region where the stars are purchased. The Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana will use the funds to supply their pantries and the donation to Colors for a Cause will help Louisiana families as they battle cancer by providing financial assistance for mortgage/rent, utilities and travel expenses for medical treatment. In addition, funds raised for Operation Homefront will provide financial assistance to military families and the money given to SAFE will help build a new baseball field.

“The proceeds from this event will help the thousands of families that depend on the food bank for their food,” said Martha Marak, executive director at the Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana. “We are providing more food today than ever before in the history of our organization and this partnership is helping us accomplish these exciting milestones.”

Alan Flagg, assistant vice president of supply and marketing at CITGO added, “We, too, are committed to helping our local communities, especially during the approaching holiday season. And when the decorations come down, we’ll still be there providing assistance to the organizations in the areas where we live and work.”
