KaBOOM!, a nonprofit dedicated to saving play, and Foresters, a fraternal benefit society, have completed their latest playground in Mount Ranier, Maryland. Built in a day by 200 volunteers, the new playground will serve 11,000 children. Since 2006, Foresters has invested $7 million with KaBOOM!, with 100 playgrounds built or planned across the U.S. and Canada that provide play space for 2.6 million children.

20 million HIV tests have been distributed to programs serving pregnant women and their families in 43 developing countries. The milestone, announced by Direct Relief International, the global health care company Abbott and its foundation, the Abbott Fund, was the target of a 2002 commitment by Abbot. To date, more than 150 partner organizations serving more than 8,000 health facilities have participated in the HIV test program.

A new Pew Internet/Elon University survey of more than 1,000 Internet experts, researchers, and users found a split about the future of corporate responsibility. About half the survey participants believed that by 2020, technology firms will be expected to protect citizens from being harassed by their governments.  About four in ten said they thought most corporations would avoid loss of profits by minimizing technology use for political organizing by dissidents. Many respondents predicted a future that mixed both scenarios.
