More LG Gas and Electric Dryers Certified Than Any Other Brand; 32 LG ENERGY STAR® Certified Dryers Meet Industry Standard

ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, N.J., June 30, 2016 /3BL Media/– Gas clothes dryers from LG Electronics are the first in the world to meet the requirements of CSA verification for industry’s new Sustainability Standard for Household Clothes Dryers. Building on their ENERGY STAR® certification, more LG gas and electric dryers than any other brand, a total of 32 LG models, achieved the scores required to meet the new environmental standard, according to CSA Group, which verified the units following extensive testing and data analysis.

The new Dryer Sustainability Standard is based on a lifecycle approach for identifying the environmental impacts in five key areas: materials, manufacturing and operations, energy consumption during use, innovation and drying time, and end-of-life management. The standard takes a broad, multi-attribute, holistic approach to assessing the environmental impacts of dryers. The multi-attribute approach was developed using life-cycle assessment information along with other key factors influencing product environmental performance.

The new standard is the fourth in a series of product sustainability standards for Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM) major appliances – in addition to refrigerators, clothes washers and cooking appliances – for use by manufacturers, governments, retailers and others to identify environmentally preferable products.

“Environmental sustainability has become as important to our customers as it has been to our company for a long time,” said T.J. Lee, senior vice president of home appliances, LG Electronics USA, Inc. “LG is proud to be first with gas dryers and the most dryers overall verified to the new sustainability standard. Together with CSA Group, LG is leading the way in addressing various aspects of the product’s lifecycle.”

In addition to bearing the recognized CSA Group certification mark for safety and performance, the LG dryers will also include the CSA Group sustainability mark that indicates to retailers, regulators, and consumers that a product has met the environmental performance requirements for product specific sustainability as set forth in the new “Sustainability Standard for Household Clothes Drying Appliances.”

“As the first with gas dryers to be verified by CSA Group to this new sustainability standard, LG is demonstrating to consumers that these products meet the requirements of the standard throughout their lifecycle and go well beyond simply meeting the traditional energy performance benchmarks,” said Nashir Jiwani, Regional Vice-President Americas, CSA Group. “CSA Group is committed to developing standards, testing and certification programs for sustainability that help manufacturers support their environmental claims.”

CSA Group worked closely with AHAM, UL Environment and other stakeholders to develop the new dryer sustainability standard (AHAM 7005-2016/CSA SPE-7005-16/UL 7005 Sustainability Standard for Household Clothes Drying Appliances), which was announced by AHAM, CSA and UL.

Announcing the publication of the new dryer standard, AHAM President and CEO Joseph M. McGuire said, “This tripartite effort of AHAM, CSA and UL continues our commitment to providing consumers, retailers, and manufacturers with objective tools for measuring product sustainability.”

These certified clothes dryers feature LG’s TrueSteam™ and Sensor Dry technologies. The LG Sensor Dry system measures the moisture and humidity levels during the cycle and automatically adjusts the drying time to help conserve energy and assure proper drying time. LG TrueSteam technology minimizes wrinkles with powerful gusts of real steam, more effective than dryers that simply spray mist into the dryer drum.
