WASHINGTON, April 22, 2014 /3BL Media/ - LG Electronics USA has joined forces again with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on the “Team ENERGY STAR” program, Now in its third year, Team ENERGY STAR teaches kids and their families how saving energy helps save money and prevent climate change with fun educational activities and energy-saving actions they can do at home on Earth Day and beyond.

Tens of thousands of families have participated in past Team ENERGY STAR campaigns – demonstrating parents’ growing interest in finding fun ways to engage their kids in activities that are good for the environment. This year’s Team ENERGY STAR® program uses Electro, the villain from The Amazing Spider-Man 2 movie, to engage and educate American youth and their families that it’s not good to waste energy and there are easy ways we can all save it.

To amplify the reach of Team ENERGY STAR on Earth Day 2014, LG worked with the EPA to create a 15-second public service announcement (PSA) calling for young people to join LG and Team ENERGY STAR in the fight against climate change. The PSA will be featured on LG’s electronic billboard in New York City’s Times Square between April 22 and May 3.

LG Electronics is also supporting Team ENERGY STAR by providing the grand prize – an LG 32-inch class ENERGY STAR Most Efficient LED HDTV – for today’s EPA Twitter Party that kicks off the 2014 Team ENERGY STAR campaign. Using the hashtag #ENERGYSTARChat, participants who engage in this Earth Day Twitter Party (between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. EDT) will be entered for a chance to win.

“LG is proud to support Team ENERGY STAR for the third consecutive year. This collaboration allows us to work year-round to educate families on ways they can help protect the environment and save money,” said Dave VanderWaal, head of marketing at LG Electronics USA, a 2014 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year. “LG has been involved with the Team ENERGY STAR campaign since its launch, and we’re excited to see so many families getting involved around Earth Day this year.”

Under the Team ENERGY STAR program, the EPA is asking families to visit energystar.gov/team and discover how ENERGY STAR can help you save energy. There are many things you can do as a family to make a difference – from turning off electronics when not in use to recycling to planting a tree. The Web site includes fun, downloadable games and tools for the entire family to engage in energy-saving activities.

“Our 2014 Team ENERGY STAR activities kicking off on Earth Day are encouraging families to save money and help fight climate change with ENERGY STAR,” said Jill Vohr, director of marketing for the EPA’s ENERGY STAR Labeling Branch. “We’re looking forward to both our Twitter party as well as seeing LG’s PSA in Times Square, spreading the word about how families can make a difference this Earth Day and beyond with ENERGY STAR.”

Team ENERGY STAR is part of the EPA’s multi-year campaign, Change the World, Start with ENERGY STAR, developed to engage Americans of all ages in saving energy, money and protecting the environment with ENERGY STAR. If every American household took part in the Change the World, Start with ENERGY STAR Pledge, we would: Save more than 130 billion kWh/yr of electricity, save $23 billion in annual energy costs, and prevent greenhouse gases equivalent to the emissions from 21 million cars.
