The award from the charity Casual Day was for being the best performing company in the Limpopo Province by raising the most money in sticker donations during 2016.

Casual Day is South Africa’s foremost fundraising campaign for people with disabilities. About 4,500 companies, 100 schools and 400 organisations take part in the annual event.

Employees and stakeholders bought stickers for R10 (US75c) to allow them to dress casually on the day. Sticker sales brought in R14,357 (US$1,064), an amount matched by the company, so R28,715 (US$2,128) was donated to the Musina Disability Forum. On the day, employees dressed according to the ‘Up your game’ theme.

Cynthia Khoali (pictured above), Corporate Affairs Practitioner at the mine, said: “We take pride in campaigns like this one as they impact positively on the lives of people living with disabilities in our communities.”

She thanked stakeholder partners such as the Musina Local Municipality and various NGOs, which also sold stickers. This year’s Casual Day, with the theme ‘Celebrate diversity with persons with disabilities, takes place on 1 September.
