LIVESTRONG Leaders Headed to Austin

This weekend, 98 LIVESTRONG Leaders from 30 states and 16 countries will converge in Austin to talk about how to support cancer survivors in their home towns. The LIVESTRONGLeaders Program engages volunteers across the globe in support of our mission to improve the lives of people affected by cancer now. This yearly advocate training is a unique opportunity and allows dedicated individuals to deepen their understanding of LIVESTRONG’s efforts and meet other survivorship advocates from all over the world.

We asked LIVESTRONG Leaders what they are most looking forward to during the Leader meeting and why they have made a commitment to serving the cancer community through LIVESTRONG. We look forward to seeing everyone on Sunday and look forward to meeting 11 brand new Leaders to the group.

“LIVESTRONG provided me with incredible support and free resources following my diagnosis and through treatment. When I first contacted LIVESTRONG they immediately began calling me a “survivor” which at once made me feel I could face the journey ahead. I feel everyone affected by cancer should be exposed to the same encouraging resources I was. I believe that the attitude you have during your cancer journey has an impact on how you live your life from the day of diagnosis forward, and LIVESTRONG embodies that “attitude is everything.” I feel supporting LIVESTRONG helps maintain programs, resources and services for cancer survivors and those affected by cancer, and gives me the opportunity to make a difference in the fight against cancer.” – David Tanza, Santa Cruz, CA

“I am very interested in learning about my Leader partners and how and what they do to make an impact in their communities and I want to learn and get suggestions concerning organizing impactful events and fundraising techniques.

I was introduced to the Foundation through my involvement with the RAGBRAI team. I was so impressed by everyone’s commitment I wanted to offer my energies as well. I lost my Mother to cancer in 1993 and I want to help ensure that those affected by cancer get the information and support that they need and LIVESTRONG makes that happen.” – David Murphy, Oak Park, IL

“Getting together is the most powerful energy and boosts my energy level and inspires me to do more.” – Linda Tarason, Tucson, AZ
