Today’s guest blog comes from Ling Shi “Tom” Xiao, a senior research scientist for Lilly’s Product and Process Performance team, and a member of Lilly’s Chinese Culture Network.

After years of busy planning and preparation, last week the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis held a grand opening ceremony for their display of the famous Terra Cotta Warriors from China. This is the only display of these iconic figures in the United States this year.

As a member of Lilly’s Chinese Culture Network  - one of our 10 employee resource groups that celebrate diversity and bring cultural relevance to our business - I was happy to attend the event with leadership from the Lilly Foundation, one of the many donors that made the exhibit possible.

Business and government leaders from throughout the U.S. enjoyed exceptional performances by international and Chinese artists, dancers, and musicians. Members of Lilly’ Chinese Cultural Network also participated through music, dance, and as greeters in stunning native costumes.A true highlight of the night was seeing the real Terra Cotta Warriors, considered by many to be the Eighth Wonder of the World. The Warriors, along with 100 ancient artifacts from Xian, China, and the interactive exhibit called “Take Me There: China,” make up a great initiative that will provide students and families with an understanding of how science, history, and art influenced ancient China.
