Making a Difference for Children Like CJ

Dee Marks adopted her son CJ from foster care. It was a journey she had taken before, but one that she knew would be difficult. “I knew that we were going to face a lot of uphill battles, especially in the beginning. But there was just something there. I can’t explain it. Right from that first day, I didn’t want to leave him.” CJ came into the Wendy’s Wonderful Kids program more than four years ago. Diagnosed with autism, CJ’s Wendy’s Wonderful Kids recruiter knew she had to find just the right family. Dee quickly accepted CJ into her life. Four years after they met, she says you would’t believe he’s the same child. From a child who was non-verbal and refused to eat, today, CJ tells visitors he wants to learn to golf and loves salad. We think his smile says it all.
