Conservation of our natural resources is and will always be a foremost objective at Mary Kay. Over the past seven years, we have reduced the amount of electricity required to operate our facilities in the Dallas area by more than 30 percent. That reduction represents enough electricity to power over 1,400 homes! During this time, Mary Kay also achieved “Zero Landfill” status at our Dallas manufacturing facility.

As we look to the future, we are proud to announce a new milestone in our efforts to reduce our environmental footprint. Effective January 2015, all electricity purchased for use in our Dallas-area facilities will be provided by renewable energy sources. In this part of the U.S. that will be electricity primarily generated by wind turbines. Our conversion to renewable power generation will have an immediate and significant impact on the environment. It represents the equivalent of eliminating annually:

  • The greenhouse gases from 44.7 million miles driven by the average passenger vehicle.
  • The CO2 emissions from the burning of more than 20 million pounds of coal.
  • The greenhouse gases from landfilling waste from 960 garbage trucks, rather than recycling.

We hope you will join us in celebrating this new commitment to making our world a more wholesome place for us and, especially, our children!

Tell us what you’re doing to “go green.”

Today’s blog is from Gage Hunt, Director of Facilities and Administration for Mary Kay Inc. For nearly 15 years, Gage has overseen facility selection, design and operations for Mary Kay’s global offices that span five continents.
