When does Mary Kay start to resemble the United Nations?  Well, in the United States it tends to be right about this time of year.  More than 30,000 women from all over the United States come to Dallas every year for Mary Kay's Seminar - the largest annual convention in the city and a Mary Kay tradition that provides recognition and education for many of the 600,000 Mary Kay Independent Beauty Consultants in the U.S.

But some who come for this annual "pilgrimage" come from borders beyond the United States.  The 3 million Mary Kay Independent Beauty Consultants around the world hail from more than 35 countries.  Each, of course, has its own Seminar, believe it or not, in their own country (some, like the one hosted by Mary Kay China and Mary Kay Russia, even rival the size and spectacle of the 2 ½ week 5-wave event held in the U.S.).  But while many Dallasites choose to escape the heat for cooler climates in mid-July, some beauty consultants from among Mary Kay's more than 35 international markets work hard to come here!  And their appearance on the Mary Kay stage in Dallas this year was especially unique!

This is where the United Nations part comes in.  While the world has been bombarded with tragic news over the last three weeks - the explosion of the Malaysian airliner, the war between Hamas and Israel and the ongoing conflict in Ukraine - Mary Kay was perhaps able, in some small way, to quietly set an example of peace.  Mary Kay hosted top independent sales force members from Mary Kay Russia and Mary Kay Ukraine in Dallas -- at the same time - together - in the same room -- on the same stage.  And despite the political tensions between their two countries at home, these women are focused instead on what unites them: their Mary Kay businesses and Mary Kay Ash's dream of changing lives.

In a symbolic gesture of unity at a luncheon in Dallas honoring these women, Mary Kay Russia General Manager Alla Sokolova and Viktoriia Zoria-Iatsenko, Executive Director of Mary Kay Ukraine jointly read a note of support from Europe Regional President Tara Eustace.  "Our mission is to enrich the lives of women around the world," Eustace wrote.  "And I feel that mission is more important than ever in your two markets. I support and congratulate all of you!!"

But perhaps the comment that best summed up the occasion came from Mary Kay Inc. President & Chief Executive Officer David Holl, who told the visitors, "When you're with Mary Kay, you're with family.  It doesn't matter where you are from."

So at least for a moment, we're proud to have had the chance to add a little pink to the world's flag. Despite politics, economics or geography, the Mary Kay dream remains intact and the women who came to Dallas serve as an inspiring example for us all.
