In December 2015, CSR professionals, employee engagement enthusiasts, VolunteerMatch clients, and national nonprofits will come together at the 2015 VolunteerMatch Summit (#VMSummit15). In this series of blog posts, I’ll introduce you to the numerous experts who will make an appearance as Summit speakers.

Wednesday, August 5, 2015 - 4:10pm

Name: Amy Thayer, Ph.D.

Title: Director of Research

Organization: Achieve

What is your session about?

The 2015 Millennial Impact Report. This report studies the relationships and experiences between Millennial employees and their managers. It also looks at who influences Millennials to engage in company-sponsored cause work. It’s part of the ongoing Millennial Impact Project, a study of Millennials and how they give, volunteer and engage with causes.

Why should attendees care about this topic?

The average American employee spends 47 hours a week in the workplace. As Millennials increasingly make up the majority of many companies, we have to shape cultures that empower this generation of “do-gooders.”

Millennials as employees actively give and volunteer in and outside of the workplace. What happens when a company encourages and influences its employees to participate in cause work? Its employees discover a vehicle to leverage their assets (money, time, network) to make a larger difference on their communities and their world.

What is a professional achievement you are particularly proud of?

I am proud that I’ve been afforded the opportunity to conduct research in a variety of environments and across a variety of disciplines. I’m proud of this achievement because it has allowed me to uncover solutions to issues that have improved individuals’ health and well-being, increased individuals’ knowledge, and benefited the work of non-profit organizations. In other words, it’s made an impact!
