The Motorola Mobility Foundation is accepting applications for its 2012 Empowerment Grants, a program to help U.S.-based nonprofits develop mobile applications and use mobile technology to benefit the communities they serve. The Empowerment Grants program supports organizations that work in four areas: education, health and wellness, community, and arts and culture. Last year, the program’s first, funding was awarded to grantees in a wide variety of outreach activities, from teacher training to healthy behavior promotions. This year, the Motorola Mobility Foundation is looking for nonprofits to show how the innovative use of digital and mobile technology can be used to further an organization’s mission.

The 13thSocial Enterprise Conference will take place this weekend in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Presented by students of Harvard Business School and the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, the annual event features 25 panels and nine workshops, four keynote addresses, and a social enterprise career fair. Also featured is a “Pitch for Change” competition, in which three-minute presentations of ideas for socially innovative enterprises are judged. Winners receive cash prizes and free professional consultations to develop their enterprise ideas, and the top two winners will be fast-tracked to the Dell Social Innovation Challenge competition. Recognized by Forbes as one of the top twelve executive gatherings in the world, the conference will be available to online viewers through live streaming at socialenterpriseconference.org.
