June 20, 2016 /3BL Media/ - Business in the Community today announces Amanda Mackenzie OBE as the fourth Chief Executive in its 34 year history.

Amanda Mackenzie brings a wealth of board level corporate experience to Business in the Community, a unique and powerful network that has inspired positive change in business behaviour for over 30 years and whose President is HRH The Prince of Wales.

Amanda has worked at a senior level for FTSE 100 firms across a range of sectors including retail, insurance, energy and technology. Most recently she was Chief Marketing Officer for Aviva, where she led Aviva’s rebranding from Norwich Union and was the first woman to be appointed to the Group Executive of the insurer over 8 years ago. Amanda sits on the Board of Mothercare and The National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain. She was a member of the Davies review to get more women on boards.

During the past 18 months, Amanda has been on secondment from Aviva to Project Everyone, a Richard Curtis initiative to bring the UN’s Global Goals to every person around the world.

Commenting on her appointment, Amanda said: “For over 30 years Business in the Community has been lighting the way in helping companies conduct responsible business. I feel very privileged to lead this organisation. Their work is needed now more than ever before. I see our job to help businesses serve the communities around them that have helped them be successful.” 

In this role, Amanda will work closely with HRH The Prince of Wales, who has been President of Business in the Community for over 30 years.

Her proven track record at the highest levels in business, outstanding leadership skills and passion for responsible business make her the ideal candidate to take Business in the Community forward. The Board would also like to take this opportunity to warmly thank Stephen Howard for his decade of service to Business in the Community and he leaves Amanda a strong foundation upon which to build."

Amanda Mackenzie will take up the post on 3 October 2016. Current Chief Executive Stephen Howard will stand down in October. He will continue to work across a portfolio of projects which represent his passion for social purpose including Chair of the National School Partnership, Chair of the independent charitable trust Power to Change and Director of The Big Society Trust. He continues as a member of the London Enterprise Panel and Director of Big Issue Social Investments.
