EMERYVILLE, Calif., May 18, 2016 /3BL Media/ - SCS Global Services (SCS), an internationally trusted leader in third-party environmental and sustainability certification, and ToxServices, a scientific consulting firm focused on toxicology and risk assessment, are pleased to announce a new partnership aimed at giving manufacturers full service support in the establishment and verification of their Health Product Declarations (HPDs).  ToxServices will help manufacturers prepare and publish their HPDs using the HPD Collaborative’s online builder tool, while SCS will provide the independent verification required to validate the HPD disclosure claim.

HPDs provide a full disclosure of the potential chemicals of concern in products by comparing product ingredients to a wide variety of “hazard” lists published by government authorities and scientific associations. They are a valuable transparency tool for designers, specifiers, and building owners seeking to determine a building product’s health risks. HPDs also help building projects qualify for green building rating system credits, such as USGBC LEED, WELL Building, and ILFI’s Living Building Challenge.

"ToxServices’ commitment to resolving complex human health and environmental issues using sound science makes them a logical partner for us,” said Nicole Munoz, Operations Manager of SCS’ Environmental Certification Services division. "Through this partnership, we can extend our ability to serve our clients with quality data collection and testing solutions."

“We are pleased to be partnering with SCS Global Services,” said Dr. Margaret H. Whittaker, Managing Director and Chief Toxicologist of ToxServices. “Alignment of our portfolio of toxicology and risk assessment services and SCS' leadership in environmental certification provides manufactures a high level of assurance that their products’ material disclosures are completed and verified with the utmost integrity to ensure the confidence in material health decisions.”

SCS and ToxServices were both active participants in the HPD Ecosystem for Third Party Verifiers, a collaborative forum which focused on creating the criteria, processes, and tools to verify both HPD v1.0 and v2.0 Open Standard disclosure requirements.
