Trees in Action

Thank You for Five Years

Wow—5 years. What an incredible milestone to reflect on. The Energy-Saving Trees program began with one vision—to educate and engage homeowners in the importance of strategically placed trees around the home to promote energy conservation and environmental stewardship. Now, five years later and that vision remains the same—but so many strides have been made to growing the program.

Over the past five years, we have worked with 52 partners to help deliver more than 200,000 trees to homeowners in 33 states. We have collaborated with energy and utility companies, city and state government, corporate partners, and nonprofit organizations. A network of more than 40 growers helped provide healthy, thriving trees of all sizes. We have updated our i-Tree technology and made our software more accessible by introducing it to mobile. We created Community Canopy, a new program with a focus on carbon, air, and water impact. A lot can happen when you set out to plant private property trees nationwide.

Thank you for being a part of our program and for allowing us to collaborate with you. The first five years went fast, but our work is not done. We are excited for what’s to come and look forward to broadening the work we do.

The i-Tree Dashboard Makes Reporting and Tracking Easy

Have you used the dashboard yet? The dashboard on i-Tree allows you to view activity and collect data for your Energy-Saving Trees or Community Canopy program.  This user-friendly tool makes it easy to track inventory. A few benefits of the dashboard include:

  • View current inventory stock, track the number of orders placed in the last 30 days, and measure benefits with a real-time benefits calculator that estimates kWh savings, CO2 sequestration, stormwater gallons filtered, and air pollutants filtered.
  • Manage orders placed by participants.
  • Accept or decline orders.
  • View an interactive map that displays where all the trees have been placed.
  • Filter results by tree species and zip code.
  • View and export reporting for GPS coordinates of trees and per tree benefits over a 5, 10, 15, and 20 year outcome to illustrate the overall impact of your program.
  • You can login to your program dashboard at anytime at https://est.arborday.org/Account/Login If you forgot your login credentials, you can email Luke at lmiller@arborday.org

Grower Spotlight: Simpson Nurseries and Plant Me Green

Simpson Nursery — the oldest nursery in Florida — is family-owned and has been operating for 116 years. A leading source of trees from New Jersey to Texas to Florida, they are recognized pioneers of production methods and technology in the nursery industry, pushing the industry to thrive, grow, improve, and prosper.

Millions of trees and shrubs are sold through the nursery every year. Their philosophy of self-improvement has helped the Arbor Day Foundation deliver quality, containerized plants to our partners in the southeast region of the United States, working with Plant Me Green to ship plants in a healthy manner.

In 2014, Simpson Nursery was recognized as northwest Florida’s Agricultural Innovators of the Year. We have worked with Simpson Nursery on 16 different regional projects and look forward to many more years of partnership.
