Newtown Creek Biogas Project – A Connect21 Video

2nd stop in the “Tour our 21st century infrastructure” Connect21 video series

Campaign: Connect21

Imagine: Producing clean energy, improving air quality, and tackling climate change with…wastewater.

The Newtown Creek renewable gas project in Brooklyn, NY will do just that. In our Connect21 video, the NYC Department of Environmental Protection and National Grid tell a compelling story about converting biogas into renewable natural gas for residential and commercial use.

Interesting fact: Newtown Creek flares more than 300 million cubic feet of biogas into the atmosphere each year. This reduces climate change impacts as the methane in the gas is converted to carbon dioxide.

Our video series started with an overview of Connect21 and includes footage of the important infrastructure projects we are working on in each of our jurisdictions. Here are a few more you can look forward to learning about:

- Clarkson University’s micro grid project in Upstate New York
- Worcester’s Smart Energy Solutions project in Massachusetts
- Rhode Island’s Aquidneck Island reliability project

We’ll feature a new video around every two weeks, so be sure to check back often. We hope you’ll give us your feedback as you take the series’ tour. The future of energy belongs to all of us, and we want to hear your voice.
