August 2, 2013 /3BLMedia/ - The World Environment Center (WEC) is accepting nominations for the 30th WEC Gold Medal for International Corporate Achievement in Sustainable Development. Global corporations demonstrating a unique and sustained contribution to sustainable development will be eligible for consideration. Nominations must be submitted by Friday, August 9, 2013 through WEC's website. Self-nominations are welcome. WEC membership is not required as a criterion for submitting a nomination.

Presented annually since 1985, the WEC Gold Medal Award is the most prestigious recognition of a global company's ongoing commitment to sustainability, as embodied by a unique signature contribution that is part of the winning company’s global vision and commitment to sustainable development. The signature contribution may be an innovative application of international economic, environmental, and/or social solutions to sustainability challenges. An independent Jury of international experts in business and sustainability selects the Gold Medal awardee.

Unilever was the recipient of the 2013 Gold Medal Award, selected in part for its ambitious Unilever Sustainable Living Plan. On May 9, 2013 at WEC’s annual Gold Medal Gala in Washington, D.C., the Gold Medal Award was presented to Unilever CEO Paul Polman by former U.S. EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson. At the following day’s Gold Medal Colloquium, “How is Sustainability Leadership Evolving?” senior Unilever executives provided a candid and detailed glimpse into the company’s sustainability strategy.
