Shoe Recycling Drive Collects Over 4,000 Pairs of Shoes

Each year, T. Rowe Price’s EDGE (Experience, Discover, Grow, Evolve) program places participants in thought-provoking business simulations, leadership skill building activities, and networking opportunities that help develop critical leadership competencies. These select and diverse associates implement a project that has a charitable and environmental focus.

In September, the Maryland EDGE class partnered with the regional sustainability team to conduct a shoe recycling drive. With the help of Fleet Feet Sports, an athletic apparel retailer, the usable shoes were collected and donated to those in need while materials from the remaining shoes would be recycled. Proceeds were donated to the Baltimore Hunger Project, a Maryland-based nonprofit organization that provides Baltimore City students with proper nourishment over weekends.

EDGE program participants collected over 4,000 pairs adding up to 5,296 pounds of shoes.

“We’re always looking for ways for associates to get involved in the community, and the EDGE class’s successful campaign really highlighted how easy it is to make a difference,” says Chris Marshall, who is a co-lead on the Maryland Sustainability Team.”
