COVINGTON, Ga., October 24, 2017 /3BL Media/ — Habitat for Humanity will send 2,000 shelter repair kits to Puerto Rico to help families repair their damaged homes following Hurricane Maria. The kits—which are being assembled by Habitat volunteers in metro Atlanta this week—are the first phase of the Habitat Hammers Back recovery initiative in Puerto Rico.

The shelter repair kits contain the tools and supplies necessary to perform critical home repairs in Puerto Rico, including large tarps for temporary roof repairs. The kits will be sent by air freight for distribution in Puerto Rico. See a full list of the contents of the shelter repair kits.

Through the Habitat Hammers Back initiative, Habitat for Humanity has pledged to help more than 2,000 families in each of Texas, Florida and Puerto Rico following the hurricanes. The organization is seeking to raise $100 million to support the effort. More information on Habitat’s response is available online.

About Habitat for Humanity

Driven by the vision that everyone needs a decent place to live, Habitat for Humanity began in 1976 as a grassroots effort on a community farm in southern Georgia. The Christian housing organization has since grown to become a leading global nonprofit working in more than 1,300 communities throughout the U.S. and in more than 70 countries. Families and individuals in need of a hand up partner with Habitat for Humanity to build or improve a place they can call home. Habitat homeowners help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage. Through financial support, volunteering or adding a voice to support affordable housing, everyone can help families achieve the strength, stability and self-reliance they need to build better lives for themselves. Through shelter, we empower. To learn more, visit habitat.org.
