(3BL Media) October 1, 2012 - Toyota Motor Europe today published its sixth annual Sustainability Report 2012 providing an overview of social, economic and environmental performance for the financial year 2011 (FY11).

Some of the highlights of FY11 include:

  • According to a recently published provisional 2011 CO2 report from the European Commission, TME achieved one of the lowest fleet CO2 emissions in the automotive industry with 126.5 g CO2/km.
  • Absolute CO2 emissions from production decreased by 3.4% even though production increased by about 1%.
  • All of the company’s production and logistics sites are ISO 14001 certified.
  • Sold more than 4 million hybrid vehicles globally and more than 400,000 hybrids in Europe, representing over 10% of total sales and saving around 2.6 million tonnes CO2 compared to conventional cars.
  • TME increased sales by 1.7% in FY11.

TME continues to invite stakeholders to add to the debate on environmental challenges in its Sustainability Report. This year, Karl Falkenberg, Director General DG Environment of the EU Commission, has written an article on effective water management.

This year’s report includes stories on cooperation and teamwork which demonstrate how we are working together towards sustainability.  Areas of focus include:   developing responsible products, managing life cycle, operating responsibly, developing supply chain, employee focus, engaging with society and enhancing economic resilience.  The report also includes a separately compiled KPI section with core data required by the GRI reporting standard.
