High School Students and Major Leaguers are Training and Inspiring the Next Gen…

Now that Labor Day has come and gone, hundreds of Action Teams of student volunteers from high schools across the country are gearing up for another year of teaming with Major League baseball players and Volunteers of America to help train and inspire the next generation of volunteers.

Since the Action Team launched more than a decade ago, over 91,000 high school students have volunteered through the program to help more than 280,000 people in need.

Presently, there are Action Teams in more than 100 high schools across 33 states (and counting) comprised of Team Captains – those students responsible for planning and organizing Action Team-related volunteer activities and encouraging their peers to heed the call to get involved.

Launching an Action Team is simple and FREE.  The program requires very little of a high school teacher or administrator’s time, and it is designed to empower high school students to address causes important in their own communities.

High school students receive many benefits by participating in the Action Team, including:

  • Opportunities to apply for college scholarships;
  • Free Action Team T-shirts;
  • Posters to help support their Action Team volunteer activities;
  • Invitations to participate in members-only conference calls and regional volunteer projects featuring Major League baseball players and end-of-the-year recognition events at big league ballgames; and
  • Certificates of participation signed by a Major Leaguer.

In addition to the above, the Action Team provides its participants with unmatched leadership opportunities and community service experience that is sure to enhance a resume and college application.

Best of all, when a high school student joins the Action Team, he or she will be joining forces with likeminded Major League baseball players and high school students from across the country passionate about making a difference in the lives of others.
