TD Securities is joint-lead underwriter of a C$500-million five-year Climate Awareness Bond (CAB) issued by the European Investment Bank (EIB). Launched on October 26, this marks the first green bond issuance from an international organization in the Canadian market, and the second Canadian dollar green bond on which TD has acted as a joint lead.

"EIB is the first international issuer to come to the Canadian market with an SRI bond," said Paul Eustace, Managing Director, Head of Syndicate at TD Securities. "A transaction of this nature is pivotal for the development of the green bond market for investors in Canada."

Of the 25 investors who participated, there was strong support from both domestic and international accounts looking for green assets denominated in Canadian dollars, as well as investors who have a strong environmental, social and governance (ESG) approach. The biggest support came from Canadian investors, who represented 53 percent of demand.

TD places great importance on contributing to the greening of the Canadian economy. In March 2014, TD launched the first bank-led green bond in Canada. Proceeds from the C$500-million three-year TD Green Bond are being used solely for green initiatives funded in Canada, with a focus on projects that contribute to the low carbon economy.
