CAMPAIGN: Pro Bono Week 2014

CONTENT: Press Release

October 16, 2014 /3BL Media/ - Pro Bono Week is a global celebration of the people who volunteer their professional expertise in marketing, legal services, HR, strategy and IT to support nonprofits. Inspired by the American Bar Association, Taproot Foundation works with partners around the globe to focus attention on the pro bono movement each year in the third week of October.

Pro Bono Week 2014 is October 19-25.  During Pro Bono Week, with principal support from CEB, Taproot DC and its partners will host a variety of consulting and educational events for Washington area nonprofits to learn how they can power their work through pro bono.  The District of Columbia and Prince George’s County in Maryland have issued proclamations acknowledging the value of pro bono in the region.

Activities include a day-long “Pro Bono Lab” on Monday, October 20 at the Cesar Chavez Public Charter School for Public Policy - Chavez Prep Campus, a nonprofit partner and current recipient of a Taproot service grant. The Pro Bono Lab will match volunteer consultants with local nonprofit organizations on small pre-defined capacity building projects. Pro Bono Lab partners, including Stone Soup Films, The Advisory Board Company, and The World Bank Group, will also host educational sessions during the event. Finally, IMPACT, District Architecture Center, DataKind DC, C. Fox Communications, and Herren Associates have committed to providing teams of highly qualified pro bono consultants.

With support from Turkish Airlines and the Turkish Embassy, Pro Bono Week will conclude with the Up!Root party to celebrate high-performing professionals, partners, and funders that have demonstrated excellence in the pro bono arena.

Taproot DC Executive Director, Max Skolnik, says, “The Taproot Foundation is proud to be a part of Pro Bono Week 2014. With the support of numerous sponsors, strategic partners, corporations, professionals, and nonprofits, we are demonstrating the power of pro bono to drive impact and sustainability in the social sector.”
