Campaign: Pro Bono Week

September 10, 2013 /3BL Media/ - Across the country, local Taproot Foundation offices demonstrate the diversity of pro bono opportunities as they prepare for Pro Bono Week.  Celebrated from October 20th-26th, Pro Bono Week serves the dual purpose of celebrating the pro bono ethic across all professions that use their talents to make a difference and encouraging more skilled professionals to give back and donate their skills pro bono. Taproot offices are located in New York City, DC, Chicago, San Francisco, and Los Angeles.  In addition to the events listed below each office will co-host a legal and business pro bono gathering with law firm, Winston & Strawn.

The New York City office’s main event is a day-long celebration of the NYC Pro Bono Community at the Centre for Social Innovation.  In addition, they will provide trainings for new pro bono practitioners and a breakfast with Philanthropic Partnership to inform nonprofits how they can become powered by pro bono.

The DC office has committed to a day-long pro bono blog-a-thon to spread the word that pro bono can help nonprofits do more with less in these challenging economic times.  They are also hosting UpRoot!, a celebratory event at Busboys and Poets, and a Pro Bono Campfire with Washington Gas.

Taproot’s Chicago office is celebrating professionals who give their time pro bono with a Pro Bono Awards Gala and is demonstrating the power of pro bono by co-sponsoring ScopeAthons, with Capital One and Kraft. ScopeAthons are done-in-a-day events where employees help nonprofits translate challenges into actionable scope of work for a project. The Chicago office is also hosting an inspiration event with Deloitte.

The San Francisco office will also be spreading the word about pro bono’s benefits at the Net Impact Conference and is also co-hosting a training with Chevron to encourage nonprofits to be powered by pro bono.

Taproot’s Los Angeles office will be hosting their second annual pro bono recognition ceremony, The Golden Root Awards, in which they honor businesses, nonprofits, and pro bono consultants for the work that they do.

ABOUT TAPROOT

Since 2001, Taproot Foundation has proven that pro bono service is a viable and reliable tool for strengthening nonprofit organizations. Today, Taproot continues to lead nationally by acting locally, and seeks to build a pro bono marketplace that, like philanthropy, is large, accessible, professional and transparent. By taking lessons learned from our award-winning Service Grant Program and applying them to our innovative new program areas, we work to stimulate the supply of pro bono resources through our corporate Advisory Services practice, as well as demand for these services by giving nonprofits the tools and training that sets them up for successful pro bono engagements. Our work has evolved to include thought leadership and international field-building, convening global leaders in the social sector to guide the design and direction of the pro bono movement while focusing on infusing a pro bono ethic into business professions, professional schools, companies and nonprofits in communities across the country and around the world. ABOUT PRO BONO SERVICE

Pro bono--short for pro bono publico, "for the public good"—refers to professional services delivered without expectation of a fee to organizations serving the social good. It is both a form of support for community organizations as well as an increasingly core part of the ethic of business professionals from design to HR and technology, who believe that high-quality professional services are too important to only be available to those who can afford them.
