Time Warner Cable- Supporting and Hiring Our Military and Veterans

Nov 11, 2015 6:30 PM ET

On Veterans Day, we celebrate and honor America’s veterans for their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to sacrifice for us all.

As a veteran, I fully comprehend the challenges of translating active duty skills to a civilian job. At TWC, we focus on attracting and hiring great talent, which includes the talented veteran population. Currently, 8.2 percent of our workforce self-identifies as veterans—higher than the national average of veterans within the job force.

Here’s a snapshot of how TWC supports, recruits, and recognizes the men and women who have served our nation:

  • VetNet Employee Network:  TWC’s VetNet Employee Network is made up of veterans, allies, and members of military families. VetNet members have participated in 35 different Veterans Day events across our service area and other key events throughout the year, like the Valor Games in Raleigh and a 5K Run for the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans in Akron. Recently, we held a VetNet event in San Diego with Operation Gratitude, an organization that sends more than 150,000 care packages to members of the veteran and active duty communities. Through this partnership, 125 employees in our San Diego call center created care packages with personal letters for soldiers posted around the world. Watch this video to see how events like these are not just making meaningful connections with our troops, but providing our employees with transformational volunteer opportunities. • Field Technician Apprentice Training Program: Across the Carolinas and Texas, employees who are military veterans and out of the service for less than 10 years, can utilize their GI Bill benefits while participating in this program. Upon successful completion, an employee receives receives a nationally recognized certificate as a certified Broadband Technician from the U.S. Department of Labor.
  • Mission Media/Veterans Advisory Council: This new initiative is aimed at improving cable’s efforts to encourage recent vets, reservists, and members of the National Guard to join cable’s ranks.
  • TWC’s Veterans and Military Page: Earlier this year, TWC relaunched its dedicated veteran and military TWC hiring page, which offers special tools for veterans seeking employment at TWC.
  • We partner with, support, and learn from other organizations to recruit and support veterans including RallyPoint.comMilitary Spouse Employment PartnershipVeterans of Foreign WarsAmerican Legion, Recruit MilitaryNational Veteran-Owned Business Association, United States Department Of Labor Veterans Employment and the Army Partnership for Youth Success Program.

At TWC, every day, and especially on Wednesday, November 11, we recognize the men and women who have served our nation. In addition, we remember that our workforce is also made up of parents, spouses, partners, siblings and children who have also made sacrifices that allowed veterans to serve our country.
