DELAWARE, Ohio,  September 17, 2014 /3BL Media/– On Aug. 20, CITGO Petroleum Corporation employees from the CITGO terminals in Columbus and Dayton launched the inaugural Sporting Clay Shootout, raising more than $15,200 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). The event proceeds will fund research projects at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and Nationwide Children’s Hospital, in addition to supporting the MDA’s advocacy, awareness and research efforts in the greater Columbus, Ohio area.

“We appreciate the support CITGO employees have provided the last few years, as do the 1,200 families that are served by the company’s remarkable community efforts,” said William Hesse Jr., the local MDA fundraising coordinator. “The level of support provided through the shootout will support so many of our services, including sending children to MDA summer camps and promoting education, medical and advocacy programs.”

Held at the Black Wing Shooting Center, the Sporting Clay Shootout treated 63 participants and sponsors to shirts and hats, among other raffle items, in addition to a prime rib and steak dinner following the event. Sponsors ranged from local organizations to national companies.

“We believe wholeheartedly in the value of investing our resources into not only giving back to our local communities, but also furthering research into this degenerative disease,” said Rafael Gómez, CITGO vice president of government and public affairs. “We’re proud to support the MDA and grateful for the generosity of our CITGO employees, participants and sponsors for making this all possible.”

As MDA's largest corporate sponsor, CITGO has raised more than $160 million since 1986 to help provide health care services for MDA families nationwide and to rally local communities to raise awareness and help find treatments and cures for neuromuscular disease.

CITGO, based in Houston, is a refiner, transporter and marketer of transportation fuels, lubricants, petrochemicals and other industrial products. The company is owned by PDV America, Inc., an indirect wholly-owned subsidiary of Petróleos de Venezuela, S.A., the national oil company of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
