NEW YORK, September 29, 2014 /3BL Media/ – Today, the United Nations Association of the USA (UNA-USA) and PwC US together launched an innovative curriculum called Economics of Globalization. Through this curriculum, students and teachers engage in activities that address financial management and economics to gain skills and knowledge to make responsible financial decisions, be productive citizens, promote prosperity, and contribute to a healthier global economy.

The curriculum is also designed to engender global thinking and advocacy. To that end, it culminates in a Model UN simulation, an innovative, experiential learning activity in which students are challenged to represent the views of other countries, recall knowledge, defend positions, and demonstrate an understanding of the tenets of financial literacy from a global perspective.

“For the next generation of college- and career-ready students to truly think globally and act locally, they will need financial literacy skills and knowledge of the economics of globalization,” said UNA-USA Executive Director Chris Whatley. “In collaboration with PwC, the new Economics of Globalization curriculum will provide the tools and resources needed for students to become global citizens. Moreover, as a membership organization with a large youth cohort, UNA-USA provides a platform for students to join with the United Nations to advocate for a better world.”

"Lessons in financial capability are often discussed in context of the individual, but these lessons have a rippling effect that touch businesses, local economics and, more broadly, the world," said Shannon Schuyler, Principal, Corporate Responsibility Leader, PwC. "Every nation can benefit from lessons in financial management and economics, and to touch every nation we need to unite the world around the need for these critical skills. By doing so, we not only help students prosper, we empower nations to as well."

As part of PwC’s Earn Your Future, a $160 million commitment to promote the financial capability of students and help them navigate the world so they can become responsible citizens, business leaders, entrepreneurs and consumers, PwC has created 35 curriculum modules that are embedded in the Economics of Globalization curriculum. Topics include Saving & Investing, Career Exploration and Planning and Money management.

The curriculum is available for download on the UNA-USA site, and is part of UNA-USA’s longstanding commitment to education, most notably with the Global Classrooms program.
