Intel, Xcel Energy, Alcoa, Shell, Suncor Energy, and National Grid are among the US companies that now link executive compensation to sustainability performance. A 2010 study of US publicly traded companies showed 11 percent of respondents integrated sustainability objectives into business operations by linking compensation and sustainability. A recent Accenture report found that 44 percent of senior executives say that sustainability is critical to their businesses.

The ING Foundation is awarding college scholarships to teams of young girls who participated in the ING-Girls Inc. Investment Challenge. The program provides practical, hands-on investing experience to girls. Teams from New York City, Denver, and Los Angeles spent the past three years managing a $50,000 portfolio, realizing a 25 percent return. Two-thirds of the investment gains will be awarded to the girls for college expenses with one-third going to the local Girls Inc. affiliate.

For the 17th consecutive year, AMD, the semi-conductor company, has published a corporate responsibility report. Among the highlights are statistics on the social and environmental management of the company’s supply chain, and a section on the company’s testimony at the Securities and Exchange Commission on conflict minerals. The report was verified as an Application Level A by the Global Reporting Initiative.
