Starting this summer, restaurant-goers will be able to view the sustainability rankings of their choices through a new list organized by The Good Food 100 Restaurants project. A who’s who of noted restaurant chefs have bought into the new rating system, which measures their practices throughout the supply chain. Scores are based on self-reported annual food purchasing data from a survey completed by participating chefs and restaurants.

The Good Food 100 Restaurants is a program of the Good Food Media network, a nonprofit pushing for food system change. In an interview with Food Tank, Sara Brito, co-founder and president of The Good Food 100 Restaurants project, said that most restaurant rankings have been based on subjective standards of how food tastes.

Brito explains that The Good Food Restaurants ratings will “focus on the quantitative measurement of chefs’ purchasing practices, based on the percentage of total food purchases spent to support local, state, regional, and national Good Food producers and purveyors.” That’s a bottom line approach that could make your next good restaurant meal an even better one. I’m John Howell for 3BL Media.
