December 17, 2013 /3BL Media/ - In an overflowing New York City ballroom packed with some of the most courageous and honorable Americans of this generation — the men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces — UTC Chairman & CEO Louis Chênevert was honored on Dec. 11 with the United Service Organization's (USO) Distinguished Service Award.

For the last 51 years, the USO of Metropolitan New York has hosted an annual gala to celebrate the contributions of civilians and service members that have gone above and beyond in service to the United States and the Armed Forces, and to raise funds that support USO programs and services. In addition to Chênevert, the USO recognized Admiral William H. McRaven, Commander, United States Special Operations Command, United States Navy, with the 2013 Military Distinguished Service Award. Admiral McRaven is best known for his leadership role in preparing and overseeing the May 2, 2011, special operations raid that resulted in the death of Osama bin Laden.

The USO is a non-government, non-profit organization that offers an array of programs targeted to support active duty military and their families. USO services include support to forward-deployed service members; families of the fallen and wounded troops; as well as helping service members transitioning to civilian life. The USO has a legacy of lifting the spirits of American troops and their families through the work of a limited staff and thousands of volunteers.
