Xylem Watermark World Water Day Activities

Xylem Watermark observed World Water Day by inspiring employees and local communities to take action to make a difference for the millions of people who lack regular access to clean, safe water. The 2016 theme of World Water Day is “Water and Jobs,” highlighting how nearly all jobs around the world depend on water in some way. This year’s theme is particularly meaningful for Xylem Inc. employees who consistently lend their expertise and passion to help solve water challenges locally and in vulnerable communities around the world through Xylem Watermark, Xylem’s corporate citizenship and social investment program.

This World Water Day, Xylem employees made a difference by participating in various activities including local Walks for Water to raise awareness for those who spend hours each day walking to collect water. Xylem sponsored walks will take place in Brazil, Argentina, China, Japan, Sweden, Switzerland and the United States.

Xylem Watermark is also tackling the issue head on with non-profit partner Planet Water Foundation to bring safe water supply and sanitation education to vulnerable communities. As a lead sponsor of Project 24, Xylem is funding through employee donations the construction of four AquaTower water filtration systems in the Pune Area of India, the Siem Reap Province of Cambodia, the Atlantico Department of Colombia and Greater Manila in the Philippines. On World Water Day, Xylem employees will track the progress as Planet Water Foundation builds sequentially, every hour, on the hour a total of 24 AquaTowers in 24 hours, bringing clean, safe water to 24,000 people in need.
