In Your Community: Our Mississippi Honors

On March 15^th, the inaugural ourMississippi Honors were held in Tupelo, Mississippi; recognizing individuals and companies in Mississippi that have distinguished themselves in promoting diversity. We are proud to announce that AT&T was one of seven companies recognized for its diversity and inclusion practices!

Three of the primary factors in selecting corporate recipients for the awards were their choice of suppliers, hiring practices and contributions to the community. "We're honoring Mississippi corporations for their diversity," said Wesley Wells, ourMississippi Magazine publisher and event chair. "We've got seven companies that we're honoring tonight and each deserve it."

Gunner Goad, Regional Director of Mississippi External Affairs accepted the award on behalf of AT&T. “I am proud and honored to be recognized for AT&T’s commitment to diversity in Mississippi,” commented Gunner. “Diversity is a way of life at AT&T.  We believe that diversity and inclusion are critical components of our workforce, innovation and success.”

In attendance were also Mayor Jason Shelton of Tupelo, Mayor Tommy Irwin of Corinth, and Alderman JC Hill from Corinth. Myrlie Evers-Williams, the widow of slain civil rights leader Medgar Evers, was presented with the first Lifetime Achievement Award at the event.
