Coors Takes on the Aluminium Can Recycling Problem

How about these facts? The world's beer and soda consumption uses about 200 billion aluminium cans every year. That's 6,700 cans every second, enough to go around the planet every 17 hours. Or that it takes more energy to mine and produce aluminium than any other metal and the energy: the energy it takes to make four cans is equivalent to filling one of them with gasoline. These are interesting statistics when put into context about the planet's resources and environmental health. Today, 152 million cans are recycled daily, making them the most recycled item in the States.

Coors Brewing Company, inventor of the first 100 per cent recyclable aluminium can in 1959, is doing something to help change the data above for the better. The company has kicked off its latest U.S. sustainability social innovation initiative by announcing a partnership with Recyclebank®, an American organisation that rewards people for taking every day green actions with discounts and deals.
