Dallas, TX and Shakopee, MN, May 21, 2014 /3BL Media/ – Compass Datacenters and general contractor Balfour Beatty Construction have completed construction of Compass’ first data center in the Minneapolis market. The completed data center has been delivered to CenturyLink Technology Solutions. The standalone, Tier III-certified data center is expandable to 6 MW and 100,000 sf to meet the long-term needs of CenturyLink and its clients. In addition to Tier III certification from Uptime Institute, the facility is certified as LEED® Gold by the U.S. Green Building Council.

“The completion of this facility within our six-month timeline is a remarkable feat given the weather conditions in the upper Midwest this year. By all accounts, this was one of the harshest Minnesota winters in 30 years, including 69 days at the construction site that were below 0° F. Anyone who keeps an eye on the construction industry knows it wreaked havoc on projects in the region. But despite all the obstacles Mother Nature threw at us, we completed this important project on time for CenturyLink, including the personalization elements that ensure the facility looks and feels like a CenturyLink Technology Solutions building,” said Chris Crosby, CEO of Compass Datacenters.

“This was a great collaboration between Compass and the team here at Balfour Beatty Construction. Compass’ design of the data center, its engineering methodology, and its use of a lean model for data center delivery were all very comfortable for us to work with because they employ best practices used in modern methods of construction,” said Mark Layman, Chairman and CEO of Balfour Beatty Construction.

Crosby added: “This is a great validation of the effort and expertise of the Compass team and our partners. It also demonstrates how our facility design, engineering methodology and construction practices come together to enable us to deliver hardened, dedicated data centers just six months from the initial ground breaking.”
