Honoring Volunteers: Old National Bank’s Volunteer of the Year

At VolunteerMatch we love sharing the stories of volunteers who engage with good causes through our network partners and clients. Below is one such story from Old National Bank. To share your story, click here.

When Ben Joergens entered the Old National Bank Board of Directors meeting in early 2012, he was fully prepared for his presentation on the Bank on Henderson initiative. But when Board Chairman Larry Dunigan began talking about volunteerism, Ben quickly realized that he had been asked to attend for a different purpose. Ben was being recognized as Old National Bank’s 2011 Wayne Henning Volunteer of the Year.

Ben, Commercial Relationship Manager in Henderson, Ky., devoted 467 hours of his time to volunteer service in 2011 and has become one of Old National’s strongest and most passionate supporters of financial literacy and economic development activities.

Peggy Williams, Western Kentucky Region President, along with several members of the Western Kentucky team and Ben’s family members were on hand for his special award presentation.

During the presentation, Wayne Henning shared a letter from Henderson Mayor Steven Austin:

“Ben has been outstanding in his volunteer community service work for Henderson. From the very start as a Chamber Ambassador, all the way through his work on the important Bank On program, he has led the way and made an instant impression,” Mayor Austin wrote. “Ben leads by action and example and has never stepped back from helping our community. His involvement is so valuable, it is not easily measured. In addition, Ben is one of the nicest and most trusted young men in our community. Everyone wants him on their team when an important group is organized.”
