(3BL Media / theCSRfeed) Portland, OR - February 17, 2012 - Anyone who has seen the movie Erin Brockovich knows that power generation can create externalities. When it's near communities, better stewardship improves human health and community prosperity. Please join Dr. Blair Feltmate on Tuesday, February 28 at 11 a.m. Pacific Time (GMT -8) for a presentation about how utilities are implementing better measurement and management systems to improve outcomes for communities and investors.
The webinar is an introduction to the Innovators in Sustainability project’s electric utilities stream. It will showcase significant progress in creating a useful index and toolkit for the sector. And as part of the multi-phase project, in the coming weeks and months, other webinars will feature an exploration of real progress in additional sectors. The International Society of Sustainability Professionals (ISSP) and Vermillion Institute offer this webinar so that practitioners can learn about and contribute to a unique report discussing questions and best practices in the sector. Many contributors will appreciate the association with the report and the project website. “We’re making this series of one-hour interactive webinars free to both ISSP members and non-members because we hope to attract input from corporate leaders and practitioners in various sectors,” said Marsha Willard, Executive Director of ISSP. “This work is essential for generating sector-specific insights for the ongoing professional development of our member-practitioners—who executives rely on to build solid business cases and solutions that deliver as promised.” Scott Steil, Chair of Vermillion Institute added, “It’s a problem for businesses when the public doesn’t trust or reward real and measurable progress. And it’s a problem for communicators when the public doesn’t know that sustainability initiatives care about people, planet and prosperity. This project is critical for improving sustainability literacy within the general public, and for enabling more consensus-based, sector-specific solutions to emerge.” For more information about the Innovators in Sustainability electric utilities webinar, and to register, please visit http://bit.ly/wAv8lw.
