BOULDER, Colo., March 7, 2012 /3BL Media /PRNewswire/ -- Rally®, the leader in Agile application lifecycle management (ALM), has been recognized in the first "Best for the World" list of companies with the most positive overall social and environmental impact. The company also announced its goal of becoming 'Net Positive' by 2020, meaning that its overall positive social and environmental impacts outweigh its negative impacts.

"Best for The World" List

Rally and the other "Best for the World" businesses earned a score in the top 10% of all Certified B Corporations and, on average, scored two times higher than nearly 2,000 other sustainable businesses that have completed the B Impact Assessment.

The B Impact Assessment, governed by the nonprofit B Lab, is the most rigorous and comprehensive independent assessment of overall corporate impact. It shows the relative value businesses create for society by comparing nearly 200 individual metrics for corporate impact on workers, consumers, suppliers, the community and the environment.

"Rally is a leader in the global movement to redefine success in business," said Jay Coen Gilbert, co-founder of B Lab, the nonprofit organization that governs the B Impact Assessment and certifies B Corporations. "Rally is among the best in the world at being the best for the world."

The "Best for the World" lists appear in the 2012 B Corp Annual Report published today by B Lab. Learn more about how Rally creates positive social and environmental impact at bcorporation.net/rallysoftware.

Net Positive by 2020

Inspired by organizations like B Lab and innovators in sustainability like Paul Hawkens and Interface Carpet's Ray Anderson, Rally announced a goal of becoming Net Positive by 2020, meaning that its overall positive social and environmental impacts outweigh its negative impacts.

Rally's mission has four parts that work in concert to move the company, employees and stakeholders towards Net Positive:

  1. A corporate social responsibility team engages Rally employees, partners and customers in volunteering activities to build capacity and encourage citizen entrepreneurial activities at social enterprises and non-profits as well as student and open source projects.
  2. A sustainability team works to reduce the negative impact of our operations and employees on the planet and share their insights.
  3. A social enterprise team provides education, coaching, training and products to other social enterprises and non-profits, as well as student and open source projects.
  4. In the future, Rally Software foundation will provide grants to accelerate the positive efforts of citizen engineers and social entrepreneurs.

"At a projected world population of 9 to 12 billion by 2050, we are straining the natural systems that maintain clean water, clean air, fertile soil, biological diversity, and the planet's temperature," said Ryan Martens, Rally's founder and CTO. "I believe all countries, business and individuals must reduce their CO2 output by 80% by 2050, and as software businesses, we can get there sooner. My hope is that by sharing, teaching and coaching on Agile and Lean practices, we can increase the speed of change in our global society."
