Following a disaster, or when preparing for an anniversary of a tragic event—such as today’s anniversary of 9/11—it can be hard to intuit when and how to appropriately respond.

If you are looking to commemorate this anniversary by taking positive action, look no further than Action America. This nonprofit encourages Americans to reclaim 9/11 and unite under a day of service by becoming “actionists” through volunteering, donating, and even tweeting.

In addition to Action America’s 2011 recipient charity partnersNational September 11 Memorial & Museum and Wounded Warrior ProjectTuesday’s Children, focused on delivering aid to children and families affected by 9/11, has joined the group.

Action America is a coalition led by Marquis Jet Founder Kenny Dichter and AOL Chairman and CEO Tim Armstrong, and includes partners AOL, KBS+, New York Says Thank You Foundation, 9/11 Day Observance, and MDC Partners, amongst others. Celebrity partners such as Heidi Klum and Katy Perry have supported Action America’s call to action.

You can get involved. How?

Share your positive-action photo by uploading it to Action America’s digital library and tweeting it with the hashtag #high11.

Serve your community through volunteer projects powered by Volunteer Match.

Donate to the charities honoring 9/11 survivors and responders, and our injured U.S. service members.
