CDC Development Solutions will host its Third Annual International Corporate Volunteerism Conference next week in Washington, DC. The ICV event will include companies as diverse as Dow Corning, Accenture, Telefonica, GlaxoSmithKline, IBM, Ernest and Young, and Pepsico, all of which send employee teams into emerging markets to volunteer their professional skills to local nonprofits, government departments, social enterprises, and NGOs. CSR and human resources professionals from 150 companies will join the U.S. State Department, the U.S. Agency for International Development, and other public sector leaders to discuss how volunteerism is addressing problems such as education, water supply, the environment, and jobs creation. CDC Development Solutions implements volunteer programs for more than a dozen companies.
ToonUps has logged over one million good deeds in the company’s Facebook game, A Better World. The company challenged online players to share their good deeds by posting in various sections of the game. To recognize the activity in the “Reach for the Stars” feature, ToonUps is donating $10,000 to CURE.org for ten children to have surgery to help them walk for the first time. CURE International is the larger provider of reconstructive surgery to disabled children in the emerging world. ToonUps is a digital entertainment company with a mission to create online games and apps to brighten the world.
