CSX has been ranked first among U.S. freight railroads in the Newsweek Green Rankings. The scoring recognizes CSX’s environmentally-safe practices—in particular, piloting new technology to reduce emissions and implement sustainable practices throughout its operations. CSX has also been named to the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes, in which CSX led the industrial transportation sector.

General Motors has added two plants to its list of manufacturing facilities that send no waste to landfills. The assembly and stamping facilities, in Rosario, Argentina, bring GM’s landfill-free plant total to 78. On average, more than 97 percent of waste materials from GM’s zero-landfill manufacturing plants are recycled or reused. The remaining three percent is converted to energy at waste-to-energy facilities, replacing fossil fuels.
