CAMPAIGN: The CSR Minute

CONTENT: Press Release

Hello, I’m Emily Polk, and these are your CSR Minute headlines for Friday, March 19th:

DuPont’s Chief Sustainability Officer, Linda Fisher, has asked the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works to urge Congress to update the Toxic Substances Control Act. The European Union, Canada, and other countries have passed rules banning many chemicals that are still used in some U.S.-manufactured products, especially cosmetics, children’s toys, and household goods. Along with NGOs, legislators, regulators, and trade associations, DuPont is working on a plan to assure the safe use of chemicals, provide transparency in labeling for the public, and encourage innovation in the use of non-toxic chemicals.

John Hopkins University plans to cut the school’s carbon dioxide emissions in half over the next 15 years. A plan released last week outlines an investment of more than $73 million in conservation and efficiency measures. It also calls for the creation of an Environment, Sustainability, and Health Institute. John Hopkins has recently added a new undergraduate major and minor in global environmental change and sustainability, as well as a new master’s degree in energy policy and climate.
