ITT has received several honors for its worldwide corporate citizenship initiatives. The company was named one of the Top 15 Best Citizens in Government Contracting by CR Magazine. ITT was selected for its high performance in seven categories, including employee relations, environment, financial, and human rights. It has also been recognized for the work of ITT Watermark with an International Stevie Award for Corporate Social Responsibility Program of the Year in Asia, Australia, and New Zealand by the 2011 International Business Awards. ITT Watermark was signaled out for its efforts to provide access to safe water and sanitation to children and families in Asia.

A new study suggests that bad behavior by companies can result in a renewed focus on corporate social responsibility. Research from 15 years of data through 2005, taken from the Social Ratings Database of KLD Research and Analytics, shows that a negative score on corporate responsibility predicted a positive score the following year. Poor practices in the categories of the environment, human rights, and community relations predicted subsequent good works in those same areas. Industries in which the correlation was strongest included the auto, chemical and pharmaceutical, hotels and entertainment, and financial sectors.
