CAMPAIGN: The CSR Minute

CONTENT: Press Release

Hello, I’m Emily Polk and these are your CSR Minute headlines for Wednesday, January 27th:

The latest issue of the MicroBanking Bulletin, published by the Microfinance Information Exchange, features financial and performance benchmarks from 1,084 microfinance institutions (“MFIs”) throughout Asia, Africa, the Middle East, Eastern Europe, and Latin America. The data, for year 2008, provides the first detailed report on the impact of the global recession on the microfinance industry. Among the key findings: MFIs were caught overstaffed when the slowdown hit, and increased portfolio arrears put the focus on current clients’ ability to make payments rather than sourcing new business. The MicroBanking Bulletin is available as a free download at www.themix.org.

The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation has announced grants of $90 million dollars to 263 global organizations. The grants focus on six main areas: global development, education, performing arts, philanthropy, the environment, and population. The foundation, one of the country’s largest with assets of more than $6 billion dollars, was started in 1967 by William Hewlett, co-founder of Hewlett Packard.
