Molson Coors Canada is donating $1 million to support initiatives that promote healthy, active lifestyles. Canadian communities can apply for a grant from the Molson Coors Community Cheer program to support local efforts to help people become more physically active. The application process is open now and runs until January 5, 2012. Through January, Canadians can “cheer” by voting online for the project that they would like to see receive funding. Initiatives that receive 225 cheers will be eligible.

Dow Corning has committed $5 million dollars to the Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves, a U.N. Foundation-led coalition to create a global marketplace for clean household cooking solutions. The donation was made after Dow Corning sent employees on a research trip to India with the Clean Service Corps, a volunteer program designed by CDC Development Solutions. The company’s funding allows the Alliance to expand its efforts to prevent millions of deaths caused annually by exposure to toxic smoke from cooking and heating with traditional cookstoves.
