Scholastic, the children’s publisher, has launched “You Are What You Read,” a social networking site that is part of its Global Literacy Campaign. Readers of all ages are asked to list the five books that have had the biggest impact on their lives, and connect with others through shared “Bookprints.” Oprah Winfrey, President Bill Clinton, and 170 other reading role models have been enlisted by Scholastic to share their most influential books.

iStockphoto is providing disaster relief to victims of the Japanese earthquake and tsunami through its “iStock Cares” program. iStock Cares has created the Japan Relief Fund, which supports three charities on the ground in Japan. iStock matches all donations to the fund. The technology to power the fund, real-time matching offers, tax receipts, and funds distribution are powered by Benevity, the developer of an embeddable microdonation platform.
