Hello, I’m Emily Polk, and these are your CSR Minute headlines for Tuesday, February 9th:
A State Farm Insurance agency in Allentown, Pennsylvania, is the first in that company to earn a Green Business Certification from the Green Business League. The Christine Moscaritolo Agency worked with Green Impact Solutions to achieve its classification. Among that agency’s green practices are the use of non-volatile organic chemical paints and Energy Star-rated appliances and computer equipment. In addition, almost half of its policies were processed online, saving reams of paper.
A new study from the International Center for Research on Women, “Bridging the Gender Divide: How Technology Can Advance Women Economically,” has inspired Ashoka Changemakers to launch a technology challenge to improve the lives of women and their families in developing countries. Ashoka Changemakers is an online community for those who want to turn innovative ideas into action to solve social problems. With financial support from ExxonMobil, Ashoka and the ICRW aim to stimulate entrepreneurship and non-traditional partnerships among businesses, non-profits, and local groups to advance economic opportunities for women.
