Thomas Cook has published its Sustainability Report for 2010. Among the highlights are Thomas Cook Airlines’  award of ISO 14001 certification for its environmental management system, the first U.K. airline to achieve that status. Also included are details about the newly created Group Working Party on Sustainability, as well as stakeholder engagement programs. The Thomas Cook Report uses the Global Reporting Initiative G3 Guidelines and is GRI-checked Level B.

Chevron says it will appeal the record $9.5 billion fine for environmental damage imposed by a court in Ecuador. The judgment was made on evidence of pollution remaining from operations by the Texaco company during 1964-1990. Texaco was bought in 2001 by Chevron. The suit began in 1993 on behalf of 30,000 residents, whose communities were the dumping grounds for billions of gallons of toxic crude. Chevron blames state-run Petroecuador, with which Texaco formed a consortium in 1972, of not completing a clean-up agreed upon with the state.
