Hello, I’m Emily Polk, and these are your CSR Minute Headlines for Monday, January 25th:

A group of leading IT companies has joined Wal-Mart’s Sustainability Consortium to better define “green” in the electronics category. Dell, HP, Intel, and Toshiba—and electronics retailer Best Buy—will work with the Consortium’s researchers and NGO partners to create a system for rating electronics based on environmental and social aspects. Plans are to release the initial criteria assessing desktops, laptops, and monitors by the third quarter of this year, with criteria for all consumer electronics to follow. The Sustainability Consortium was formed in 2008 by Wal-Mart to create a sustainability rating for its 44,000 suppliers of a wide range of products.

Charles Clover, a reporter for Britain’s Telegraph newspaper, has published Fish2fork, a sustainable seafood dining guide that rates restaurants not just on their food, but on the environmental ethics of their menus. Fish2Fork ranks top seafood restaurants in the U.K. and the U.S. on factors that include species, sourcing, transparency, and sustainability policies—or lack thereof. Restaurants are rated on a scale of red and blue fish, with five blue fish as the highest score, and five red fish the worst. Clover’s previous book, The End of the Line, projected a bleak future if oceans continued to be overfished. A documentary based on the book was shown at the Sundance Film Festival last year.
